Elton John / Billy Joel

Went to the concert last night in San Antonio. Phenomenal. We're doubting this duo will tour again, although I was doubting it after missing their last tour a few years ago and here they are!

Elton John didn't talk much, and he played several obscure songs, prompting many to take a beer break. With songbooks like theirs, I think most of us were there to hear the hits. Billy sang two not-as-popular songs of his, but with both, he told a little story which made them more interesting. He also specifically asked us not to go get a beer. LOL. I just read a review from another city, where the reviewer complained that they just played "the same old songs." Sorry, but the crowd went crazy during all the hits and was notably sedate for the few lesser known ones.

I did love Billy Joel's funny banter, and "The Ballad of Billy the Kid" that he said he doesn't usually sing, but he sang it since he was in Texas. He introduced it with a terrible John Wayne impression. Afterward, he pointed out all the inaccuracies in the lyrics, and said he's just a kid from Long Island, so what the heck does he know. Haha.

Wonderful concert. I'm so glad I got to be there.
