Train/Gavin/The Script in Austin

Saturday, August 10, 2013

I forgot to tell y'all about Train/Gavin DeGraw/The Script at Austin 360 Amphitheater last weekend!

The Austin 360 Amphitheater is beautiful, with limestone walls, armchair seats and a grass seating area up top. It's a good intimate size, so no seat is a bad one. If you can score a table on the tracks early in the afternoon, you can just sit there and have beer and snacks all evening and enjoy a great view of the stage as well.

I can capture the night in one word- FUN. Even the taped music between sets had the audience singing and dancing, especially the 70's/80's rap and disco before Train came out. All the artists were so upbeat (despite the unrelenting heat) and involved the audience to a larger than typical extent. Each of the three acts were walking through the whole theater at one or more points during their sets.

The crowd was fantastic. All age groups. We had a group of college guys on our row. The guys don't usually sing as much as the gals do at concerts, but the guy next to me sang every song. And he had a set of pipes on him! Bravo.

Then there was a girl in front of us who did all the motions with the backup singers all night. Her BF was finally able to get her to stop, but it was very amusing. Thanks, Beer!

An older guy was there with his adult kids, and he really put on a show when KC and the Sunshine Band started playing between sets. His kids joined in about midway through the song, singing and doing The Bump with their dad.

Martina McBride happened to be there that night, so she joined in for "The Weight," which the openers and Train have been performing at the end of each concert on the Mermaids of Alcatraz tour. Pretty cool. This clip sort of sums up the fun mood...

One of my fave concerts ever.
