Web Designers Only: Faux Column PNG

Friday, February 8, 2008

Just found a fix for something I wanted to leave for my own notes, as well as anyone out there who needs it.

When creating faux columns for your CSS layouts, and your background image is a PNG, in Firefox the PNG image displays correctly and matches the color of your column exactly. In Internet Explorer the PNG will display slightly darker than the color it is, defeating the purpose of the image altogether.

Here's the fix (thank you so much Biorust.com!): Remove the gAMA with TweakPNG (thank you so much Jason Summers!). It will now display the correct color. Ta-Da!
