We saw a nationally known comedian's late show at a comedy club last night. It was the first time I've ever seen a headliner bomb.

I don't really know why it all went wrong from the first moment, but it was endless and excruciating. No one was heckling (strictly verboten in the venue), but several people walked out. When he did say something funny (every ten minutes or so), we all laughed and applauded and encouraged like we were watching our best friend finally have a tiny success during an otherwise disastrous attempt on open mic night. But that would be followed by another ten minutes of him rambling, explaining jokes and complaining that the audience wasn't responding. It was just uncomfortable for everyone involved.

On the bright side, the opener was hilarious. I wish that I could mention his name. He was a writer on an extremely popular, now ended sitcom about nothing. *cough* Too bad we couldn't call him back up for another hour last night!
