Catfish Happy Ending

Saw Laura and Rich's new house last night. It's awesome!! They're painting and redoing all the flooring before they move in. Fun! That place is huge. I foresee many karaoke nights in the living room.

Now that everyone has seen the Lauren & Derek episode of Catfish (not my Lauren), can I just say, WOW? How cool is it that someone actually was who they said they were on that show!

So Derek had been talking to Lauren online for 8 years, but would never Skype with her or meet her. He turned out to be who he said he was- looked exactly like his photos, didn't have a secret wife or kids, wasn't a woman, etc. So my question is still... WHY wouldn't this guy meet her?

He said it was because this girl meant so much to him and he was afraid she wouldn't like him in person as much as she did online. Did you see her? She was totally in love with him. Why on earth wouldn't she like him in person? They'd talked for 8 years. Yeesh. I still don't get it. There might actually be something more to that, but let's just all assume it's true, so we can keep our rose-colored glasses in place.

We were on the edge of our seats during the reveal scene like never before that night, because this guy was either going to be Mr. LaVourne (an older guy to whom Derek's cell phone number mapped) or Derek or God-knows-who. It could have gone any direction, from happy ending to an old guy talking to a 20-year-old girl.

Everyone kept grossing out about Mr. LaVourne, but honestly he looks like a totally cool cat. He was smiling and having fun with his family in his photos. It's just the age difference that would have been the creepiest. They should have had LaVourne on the follow-up show, so he could say "OMG, what kind of perv do you think I am?"

And what is up with the follow-up show having people sit sixteen feet from each other? So weird. Squish 'em together a bit, MTV!
