Standard Emergency Policy

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Well, surprisingly, the vast majority of universities have the same exact policy about leaving wheelchair-bound folks where they are on higher floors in fires and other emergencies where the elevators cannot be used. Not sure why a ton of colleges popped up when I searched for this topic. Maybe it's because they share their policies publicly, where corporations do not. There are rolling rescue chairs that are for going down stairs in emergencies, but they don't seem to be all that popular. Maybe it's because they would require training in how to use them, space to store them and lots of money to purchase them. This is all my general perception from Googling, which may or may not be even slightly relevant to statistical facts.

There was this one college in Oregon who had some more detailed procedures.

Some companies always keep non-ambulatory employees on the first floor for this very concern, but that would be impossible in our situation. So, there ya' go. Let's just hope we never have a fire or tornado. I'll be sick worrying about those people.

My high school buddy Gary always tells me when it's time for a new FB profile photo. It's evidently time now for a new one. I want one with the kittens, but they're so hard to get a good shot of together!

Speaking of shots... they get their first vaccinations this morning. Awww. I'm going to pack them up now. (Yes, it IS 6:30 a.m.!) Have a wonderful day, all!
