National Health Care

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Sorry. I am not a fan of public health care for the entire country. I'm saying it here instead of FB because I have a couple of wonderful but over-the-top-liberal buddies over there who are touting it as the sensible option, and would harass me mercilessly for at least the next week. :D

Many folks in England and Canada will tell you the number one problem with national health care is that if you have ominous symptoms, you have to wait and wait and wait for testing. Once you are into the system with your life-threatening illness, it's fine, but to get there, you may croak waiting for a CT scan. If you are healthy or have something minor, it works alright, but if you are sick, forget it.

We complain all the time that government is wasteful and slow. Is that how we want our health care managed? We're talking life and death here, for Pete's sake- not standing in line at the DMV.

I do think there should be government coverage for those who have no other coverage. Uninsured? We've got you covered. I would welcome an option, should I be uninsured at some point. And maybe with a smaller group, rather than the entire country, they can make it function.

Aww man. Laura's going to see this... ;) Eh. She's a closet Republican anyway.
