The Big 12 Lives - But Still Has a Texas Problem
Byrne "refused to play the 'UT Says' game"? Until yesterday, perhaps.
...And in a decade... NU will be in a coffee shop talking research with its new friends. The Big 12 will be in another barroom brawl. Texas will be standing on a table, looking to dive into the scrum, a broken bottle in one hoof, a money clip in another.
We totally should have gone to the SEC. A&M's President Loftin says staying with the Big 12 preserves our athletic rivalries. Didn't we have the big ol' discussion that UT and A&M would continue their Thanksgiving Day game, no matter what conferences they chose? The rivalry would have remained intact.
Another article says we'll never even get the $20-25 million per year they're claiming from TV broadcasts. The only point I see that would have been an issue with the SEC is travel schedules for students. I think our athletes would have made that sacrifice to be in the conference.
